Dan Telford

Dan (Danny) Telford, passed away at home on April 12 at the age of 82. His wife, Pat, was at his side. Dan's sons, grandsons as well as other out-of-state relatives, were able to visit Dan and say their goodbyes just prior to his death.Dan was born on March 7, 1935, in Sandoval, IL. He had two sons (Kevin and Bruce), one granddaughter (Kira), two grandsons (Dennis and Sean), and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by three of his siblings (Juanita Hediger and Una Funk from Illinois and Donna Gaffney from Texas).Dan joined the Marines at the age of 17 and reached the rank of sergeant by the end of his 3-year stint. Upon completing his military duties, he attended Southern Illinois University where he met his wife, Pat. They were married their senior year in college.The proudest moments of his life were when his two sons were born. He always made time for them and shared many memorable times with them taking them camping, canoeing, hunting, fishing, golfing, and becoming their leader for Webelos and Boy Scouts.Dan worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and was the Director of Personnel for the Western Railroad Association for 20 years. He also acted as the president of the Chicago Compensation Association.When Dan and Pat moved to Sun City West in 1995, they immediately became active in the RV Club. Dan became president of the club and led 5 caravans to many wonderful areas of the Southwest. Also, he volunteered at the Visitors' Center and the Sundome.He will be missed by his entire family and his friends who will avow to his endearing sense of humor and his hearty laugh.There is no memorial planned at this time.
