Cutting Scottsdale school board meetings sparks debate

There will be five fewer Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board meetings next year.

That was the source of a spirited debate by the board during its May 2 meeting, which saw president Julie Cieniawski prevent board member Amy Carney from speaking for a final time before a vote on the issue. The debate also saw Carney and board member Carine Werner taking shots at superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel.

The vote came down 3-2 to cut the meetings with Cieniawski and board members Zach Lindsay and Dr. Libby Hart-Wells in favor of the shortened calendar and Carney and Werner opposing it.
