CUSD responds to allegations against teacher, district

The Chandler Unified School District is refuting allegations of how it handled an investigation of a former Casteel High School teacher, following an April 12 school board meeting where members of the public voiced concern with how the matter was conducted.

The issue stems from February 2021, when then-theater teacher Patrick Power was accused of allegedly touching female students inappropriately multiple times. While Power eventually retired and surrendered his teaching license, some people are calling on CUSD to take student allegations of teacher misconduct more seriously. Power denies the allegations.

In response, Chandler Unified issued a statement April 13, one day after the school board meeting in which advocates admonished the district for not reporting the allegations to law enforcement.
