Crews battling haz mat situation at Glendale water facility

No risks to residents, structures

A hazardous materials situation is in progress Tuesday morning at a Glendale water treatment plant.

Fire and haz mat crews from Glendale, Peoria and Phoenix responded to an 8 a.m. call at the West Area Water Reclamation Facility, at 5901 N. Glen Harbor Blvd., less than a mile from the Glendale Airport, about a leak in above-ground tankers on site. There are no injuries, nor is there a threat to residents or businesses in the area, according to Glendale Fire Captain Ashley Losch, who spoke on scene.

The ongoing situation is contained to one area of the facility, and is not a threat to buildings on site or the airport. The facility is in an industrial area on the west side of the city with few houses nearby.
