Sept. 18, 1947 – Nov. 12, 2016 SUN CITY - Craig L. Patterson passed away at Banner Boswell Memorial Hospital on Nov. 12, 2016 from cancer. He was born Sept. 18, 1947 in Perry, Iowa to Donald L. and Merna M. (Moorhead) Patterson. He attended schools in Iowa, Nebraska, and Colorado, graduating from Loveland High School, Loveland, Colo., in 1965. Craig was a standout "southpaw" pitcher for the LHS baseball team. He attended college at Kearney State College (now University of Nebraska/Kearney) and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, graduating in December 1976. He entered the military in January 1967 in the Army Security Agency and was honorably discharged in January 1971. Craig married Christine (Christy) Leamons on Aug. 12, 1967 in Loveland. After military service, they lived for two years in Iowa where Craig was employed by Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and Great Western Railroad in Des Moines. In 1973, they moved back to Loveland where Craig began employment at Hewlett-Packard Company. He retired from HP/Agilent Technologies in October 2002. He and Christy moved to Sun City in May 2003, where they both enjoyed playing golf several times a week and playing couples bridge. They also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for three years. Craig thoroughly enjoyed the heat in the Arizona summers. He didn't think 110 degrees was that hot. Besides, he always had a pool to jump into when he got home. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; his mother and stepfather, Merna and Marvin Leamons; and a nephew, Daniel Leamons. Craig is survived by Christy, his wife of 49 years; two sons, Marc (Amy) Patterson, of Greeley, Colo., and Matt (Kristin) Patterson, of Urbandale, Iowa; his stepmother, Veronica Patterson, of Mesa; and seven brothers, Chris (Peg) Patterson, Kevin (Cara) Patterson, Kurt (Jennifer) Patterson, Kent (Joey) Patterson, Kirk (Pam) Leamons, Bill (Tracy Stewart) Leamons, and Ray (Lori) Leamons; three grandchildren were the highlight of his life, Kylie Patterson of Greeley, Colo., and Asa and Eli Patterson, of Urbandale, Iowa. Cremation has been conducted. No local services are scheduled. His ashes will be buried in Chapman, Neb., at a graveside service next summer. Donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for grandson, Asa, who is a Type I diabetic.
