COVID-19 outbreak declared at Peoria Unified on first day of school

3 cases documented at Sunset Heights Elementary School

On the first day of the new school year, Maricopa County Department of Public Health has declared Sunset Heights Elementary School as an outbreak, according a letter from the Peoria Unified School District.

MCDPH defines an outbreak as two positive COVID-19 cases within a 14-day period who do not share a household.

PUSD officials said there are three confirmed cases at Sunset Heights, 9687 W. Adam Ave., that are believed to be predominately contained to a specific group of individuals who gathered together prior to the start of classes.
