Court papers filed in effort to block Arizona school voucher vote

PHOENIX - Supporters of universal vouchers for private, parochial and home-schooled children are going to court to stop a public vote to rein in the program.

Papers filed Monday by the Goldwater Institute on behalf of four individuals claim that there are not enough valid signatures on the petitions. And they want Maricopa County Superior Court Judge David McDowell to direct Secretary of State Adrian Fontes from putting it on the November ballot.

But the burden is on challengers to prove the numbers come up short.
