The murders happened in February 2016 at the home of Ms. Leslie. Ms. Schwed had been visiting from out of town.

Police responded to the home after Ms. Schwed's family reported not having heard from her in a while. When police entered the home, they found the two women dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Surprise police led the investigation, ultimately arresting Andrew Lauro, of Goodyear, and Mr. Wright within weeks of the deaths.

Authorities also identified Ms. Shephard as a possible suspect and officially arrested her in 2017 after months of hiding from arrest.

Mr. Lauro was sentenced to life in prison in 2017.
