Maricopa County Parks and Recreation is inviting residents to hit the trails Monday, Nov. 17, for National Take a Hike Day and to celebrate, the department is waiving its $7-per-vehicle day-use entry fee at all regional parks.
The county manages more than 615 miles of trails across its park system. Officials say the event is a great opportunity for residents to enjoy the cooler fall weather and log miles toward the county’s annual “100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge.”
“Hiking gives us the chance to step away from the rush of everyday life, breathe in the fresh desert air, and appreciate the incredible beauty of our Sonoran landscape,” said Thomas Galvin, chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 2. “Our regional parks offer so many places to relax, explore, and recharge.”

Residents in the Southwest Valley can celebrate close to home at Estrella Mountain Regional Park, located at 14805 W. Vineyard Ave. in Goodyear.
Estrella Mountain Regional Park is hosting two events on National Take a Hike Day, a community night hike and an educational hike along the Gila River.
Park officials encourage hikers to prepare properly by staying on designated trails, bringing plenty of water, wearing suitable footwear, and telling someone their plans before heading out.
More information about park locations, programs and trail maps is available at www.maricopa.gov/parks.
