Maricopa County’s $3.87 billion 2025 projected budget comes with a reduction to its general fund operating dollars to the tune of a 19.3% cut from last year, said Mike McGee, internal audit director for Maricopa County.
The county is having to pay $367.5 million (or $19.3%) of its general fund operating budget for state-mandated spending to the Arizona Healthcare Cost Containment System, better known as AHCCCS, the state’s Medicaid system.
In addition, the county is expected to see an 11.3% reduction to it’s overall budget — about $493,400 — “primarily” as a result of a reduction in one-time spending from fiscal year 2024, McGee said.
