Council heard from public on alleged animal abuser

Woman arrested Friday on 55 abuse charges

Prior to the Chandler Police Department announcing Friday that a woman had been jailed on 55 counts of animal abuse, a woman came to speak to the Chandler City Council about the situation at Thursday’s regular meeting.

And prior to her speaking, City Manager Josh Wright briefed council on police involvement to that point.

“The Chandler Police Department has been intimately involved with this issue since Sept. 8,” Wright said during Thursday’s meeting. “We’ve had many touch points with the property, as well as the ownership of that shelter, using the Arizona Humane Society as our experts in caring for these animals, and, if necessary, proper homes being found for those animals.”
