Copple: Where’s the compassion, sympathy in the U.S. today?

Just 20 years ago, President Bush’s slogan was “compassionate conservatives.”

Today, those same people are adamantly treating the pandemic as some childhood ailment. A bellyache maybe. But COVID is not. It is a life-taking and body-wrecking virus.

Just 20 years ago, President Bush’s slogan was “compassionate conservatives.”

Today, those same people are adamantly treating the pandemic as some childhood ailment. A bellyache maybe. But COVID is not. It is a life-taking and body-wrecking virus.

They refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated because it is their body, to hell with anybody else. They don’t even have any sympathy for the millions of health care workers who are exhausted and many leaving their professions because of the long hours, emotional trauma and stress required of them.

In addition, the issue of abortions is at a crescendo. It’s as if a lady, who decides to have an abortion just does this without any thought. As if she is not religious. I am not a woman, but I realize that taking a fetus’ life must be a traumatic experience. It is not ever going to be forgotten.

It must be one of the most horrible decisions that any woman must make, especially if the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest.

Lastly, our democracy is at a precipice. Democracy or authoritarianism?

An all-white nation imposing their religious beliefs on others or a homogeneous population of all peoples on this Earth.
