Copeland: I favor a woman’s right to choose; but only if that choice is adoption

Posted

When I see news coverage of women marching for the right to abort their babies, it makes me sad and angry for the hundreds of women who, like me, can’t have children, through no fault of our own — because we are infertile.

We have to rely on the generosity of others who choose to give up their children for adoption.

Do any of the women who march for their abortion rights ever think about these women whose infertility prevents them from conceiving a child — whose only hope of having a family would be to adopt someone else’s unwanted child?

Why are we so anxious to destroy children who could make an infertile couple’s family complete? Have we become a nation who only thinks about me, me, me — seldom about other people who would love to have one of these aborted children.

The marchers talk about pro choice. Infertile women, like me, don’t have a choice unless some generous woman decides not to abort her child and, instead, puts the baby up for adoption.

Even the woman who sued and won in the Roe v. Wade decision didn’t abort her children. She birthed the babies and gave them up for adoption. Children are a gift of God; they should not be thrown away.
