Cooler temps bring back walking tours with ‘Hip Historian’ of Phoenix

Marshall Shore blends historical accuracy, storytelling, and everything you (think you) know about Arizona

When it comes to the treasure trove of compelling history in Phoenix and in Arizona, researching through books and the Internet is one thing.

Walking the pavement and seeing actual buildings and city blocks where people and events shaped the landscape is something else entirely. And getting that history from a guy who left his full-time library job to become an Arizona historian is a sure way to separate fact from grapevine gossip.

“The other day I Googled something, and I was like, I got (the information) kind of right but it was wrong names, wrong dates, wrong address, yeah,” Marshall Shore said Sept. 9 in Phoenix. “So it’s kind of like the gist of the story was there, but there were a lot of things not there.”
