Controversial shopping center next to Pinnacle High School granted extension

Hundreds each support, oppose proposed center

A controversial shopping center proposed to be built next to Pinnacle High School in northeast Phoenix has been granted an extension as the developer tries to find a plan to satisfy the community.

The proposed shopping center, on 20.5 acres at the southwest corner of Black Mountain Boulevard and Deer Valley Drive, just north of Pinnacle High School, has caused hundreds of community members to contact the planning commission both in support and opposition.

A lawyer for developer Vestar Development Co. told the Phoenix Planning Commission earlier this month the company aims to bring the zoning request back to the Deer Valley Village Planning Committee in May and the planning commission in June.
