Looking at the first batch of counted votes posted Tuesday night by the Arizona Secretary of State, the chances the Congressional District 1 incumbent will compete again in November look strong.
Conversely, the picture of who will be David Schweikert’s Democratic challenger isn’t clear at all.
First results posted Tuesday on arizona.vote showed Amish Shah had a narrow lead over Andrei Cherny in the six-candidate Democratic primary. Shah earned 14,397 of the first 60,000 Democratic votes reported, or 24.25%, with Cherny getting 12,835, or 21.62%.
