Confusion reigns as Phoenix Rising falls 3-2 to San Diego Loyal

SCOTTSDALE — At first, Phoenix Rising FC and its fans thought they were done in by shoddy officiating.

Upon further review, PRFC fell to San Diego Loyal 3-2 at Casino Arizona Field on Saturday night due to a Rubio Rubin hat trick and some bad luck that led to application of an obscure edict from the USL Championship rulebook.

“I am sorry for the loss,” Rising Head Coach Rick Schantz tweeted after the game. “We were not ready from the start and it is my fault.”
