Official crime numbers for 2022 are still being tabulated by Tempe Police Department, but unofficial numbers show an overall decrease in violent crimes.
Tempe PD’s Crime Analysis Unit is responsible for collecting this data annually, supporting the city’s ability to make decisions regarding the department through short-term, long-term, and regional data analysis.
According to the city’s website, crimes recorded in the analysis are Part 1 crimes as defined by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. This includes homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson.
