Housing Ordinance

Community concerned with Tempe’s proposed anti-discrimination ordinance change

Local landlords and a multihousing association official spoke up at a recent meeting about Tempe’s proposed change to its anti-discrimination ordinance that would expand protections to sources of income, including federal and local housing vouchers.

Developed by the city’s Workforce Readiness and Livable Communities Council Committee led by Council Members Berdetta Hodge and Randy Keating, this change to the ordinance was discussed at the committee’s June 26 meeting, where both council members expressed support for the change, according to city documents.

City council is slated to vote on the proposed change on Oct. 26, following two public hearings scheduled for Oct. 19 and 26. Residents wishing to provide feedback can do so at tempe.gov/sourceofincome until Oct. 1.
