Committee greenlights apartment building to reach 159 feet

Building at Bell and Scottsdale roads still needs further approval

A Phoenix planning committee overruled city staff’s recommendation to limit the height of a planned high-rise apartment at Bell and Scottsdale roads after the developer said it would scrap the entire project if not given their requested height.

Last Monday, Oct. 4, Phoenix’s Paradise Valley Planning Committee voted 14-1 on a general plan amendment and 11-4 on a rezone to allow for the 14-story apartment building. The Phoenix Planning Commission and City Council will still have to vote for final approval.

The committee voted to allow a 159-foot building despite city planning staff’s recommendation to cap the building at 110 feet.
