Collisions involving bicyclists, pedestrians up in Phoenix

In 87% of pedestrian fatalities, pedestrian was found at fault

So far this year there has been just a small increase in total collisions on Phoenix streets but more significant increases in collisions involving vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Phoenix Police is changing its approach to speed enforcement and soon will roll out a social media education campaign encouraging road safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

Pedestrians will be a focus because Phoenix Police found that in 87% of the pedestrian fatalities this year, the pedestrian was at fault, Phoenix Police officials told the Public Safety and Justice Subcommittee.
