Cognitive challenges are something the senior population is challenged with in the Sun Cities.
In a recent study from Seniorly, the focus included a state-by-state look at recent data on dementia from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Alzheimer’s Association. The rankings used factors such as mortality rates, rates of cognitive decline among seniors, the percentage that need help with daily activities and annual Medicaid costs.
According to this Seniorly study, Arizona was ranked No. 24 as the most impacted state and is expected to increase 33.3% by 2025. Seniors with cognitive decline were at 10.5% and 30.5% need help with daily activities. In addition, the study showed Alzheimer’s mortality rate is 30.5 per 100,000 people, with an average annual Medicaid cost for dementia at $2,760.
