Clubs end volunteer cleanup of Goldfield Road in Apache Junction

From October 2007 to December 2022 a number of clubs joined together in a contractual agreement with the city of Apache Junction to clean up Goldfield Road. The clubs had agreed to clean up the road south from Southern Road and north to Lost Dutchman Boulevard.

Unfortunately — as with so many things — the enthusiasm of performing this worthwhile community service project lost its appeal and so the club members agreed to end their participation.

The clubs and organizations are the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, Superstition Mountain Republican Club, Paws 4 Life, Star Trek: USS Leonidas chapter and the Kiwanis Club of Apache Junction.

The Non-Commissioned Officers Association was created by and is run by enlisted personnel of all six branches of the U.S. military: active, reserves, guard, veteran and retired alike. We have been around since 1960 and our motto is “Strength in Unity” with a purpose to act as an advocate of all military personnel and their families to improve their quality of life in and out of uniform at home and on Capital Hill. Memberships begin at $35/year up to multiple years and even life memberships and Auxiliary.

Superstition Mountain Republican Club meets at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of the month at Avalon Charter School. We are a conservative group who has many guest speakers to discuss a number of topics — not just politics but history, the U.S. Constitution, science and even entertainment/sports. Membership is $15/member $20/couple.

Paws 4 Life is a dog training group that trains at the Greyhound track for only $5 for about a 75-minute session. It starts with basic obedience all the way through certified serviced dogs. Find the group on its Facebook and website page under the same name with Tuni House as the founder of this 501(c)(3) organization.

Star Trek: USS Leonidas chapter is here in Apache Junction. Memberships are $9/member. There are Star Fleet Academy courses for free as well as numerous other opportunities that Star Trek fans would have enjoy which includes Fandom and conventions. All genre of sci-fI are welcomed, which includes names, costumes, uniforms and other related articles accepted in Star Fleet. Find the USS Leonidas on Facebook at: Leonidas-Galaxy Class.

Kiwanis Club of Apache Junction has a motto of “Serving the Children of the World.” Our club has been around since 2007 with membership dues of $132/year. Kiwanis has school clubs for children starting in the third gradem the famous Key Club International for high school students and in college there is the Circle K International. There are even clubs for adults with various disabilities. All clubs are run by the students or club members who elect their leaders, choose their activities and projects. Kiwanis clubs may be local but we are an International nonprofit organization that has been around since 1915 and has been providing for children from day one. We have taken on international projects such as to end preneonatal tetanus, a horrible 100% deadly disease. Find us on Facebook under Apache Junction Kiwanis.
