Clarence LeRoy Chavez, 71Clarence LeRoy Chavez, 71, of Apache Junction, passed away peacefully in his home Jan. 17, 2008 after a year-long battle with cancer.He was born May 20, 1936 in Fort Garland, Colo.He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Chavez; five children, Lori Chavez Miley, Cheryl Chavez Newey, Jeffrey Chavez, Julie Chavez Kaysen and Carlos Chavez; and seven grandchildren.He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, the American Legion and St. George Catholic Church in Apache Junction. He served four years of active duty with the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves on May 20, 1996. Mass of Christian burial was held in Colorado and burial was at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Queen of Heaven Mortuary handled arrangements in Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Chavez's name to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014-5656.
