City wants ‘Glendale Glitters’ name back, but this business owner bought its rights

Council says name change should never have happened as event evolved

When it became apparent that Glendale was pivoting away from the city’s longtime holiday event Glendale Glitters, Bud Zomok had a thought.

The downtown business owner, who also grew up in Glendale, suspected that efforts to trend away from Glitters might be temporary. After all, the city halted the annual event’s kickoff party in the winter of 2020 due to crowd-gathering precautions during the height of COVID. But the next year, in April, it went a step further.

The city, in an effort to revamp a downtown strategy, proposed nixing Glendale Glitters in the format it had taken place for 27 years. The effort was to “pivot” away from a few large downtown events and to instead focus on more scaled-down events.
