City of Scottsdale outlines plan to eliminate DEI programs

The City of Scottsdale will cancel six internal and external programs like a Juneteenth celebration and voluntary, employee-led groups committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and engaging work culture as part of the city council-passed ordinance to eliminate Diversity Equity and Inclusion programs.

Another program, the Girl Scout patch program, is not yet discontinued but is on hold while staff determines interest in proceeding with the program. The program requires members of the Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus Pine Council to conduct certain tasks created by the city’s Diversity and Inclusion director in order to earn a City of Scottsdale badge.

The moves were put forth in a memo by interim Assistant City Manager Jeff Walther dated March 7.
