City of Scottsdale appeals wrongful termination case

The City of Scottsdale is appealing the results of a wrongful termination lawsuit in which it was ordered to pay $5.25 million to former city prosecutor Shawn Fuller.

“The city believes the lower court’s decisions raise important legal questions that merit further review,” Scottsdale spokeswoman Holly Peralta said in an email to the Daily Independent.

Fuller was hired in 2019 by then-acting City Attorney Joe Padilla but was terminated by City Attorney Sherry Scott approximately three months later for gender discrimination. Fuller subsequently filed a lawsuit against the City of Scottsdale and Scott. Nearly four years after his firing, a jury, after a 17-day trial, concluded that Scott wrongfully terminated Fuller.
