City North Drive opens to the public

Marks milestone in CityNorth’s Growth

Posted

CityNorth announced the official opening of City North Drive, a key mobility corridor designed to advance the district’s long‑term vision as a connected, innovative live/work/play destination in north Phoenix. The roadway, originally constructed in 2020, remained closed during major development phases and is now open to the public for the first time.

City North Drive provides a direct connection between CityNorth and the two major retail and entertainment hubs that border the property - High Street and Desert Ridge Marketplace - creating walkable access to more than 50 restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.

City North Drive features dedicated pull‑outs for autonomous shuttles and ride‑share services, integrated high‑speed internet to support smart‑mobility technologies and a 12‑foot shaded sidewalk for cyclists, scooter riders, walkers and joggers.

The roadway and infrastructure were constructed by A.R. Mays Construction, a long‑time partner in the CityNorth development.

The opening of City North Drive coincides with the completion and occupancy of the new Republic Services Corporate Headquarters, now the largest newly built office building in the greater Phoenix market. Constructed by Ryan Companies, the six‑story, 240,000‑square‑foot building will house 1,000 employees and is expected to create 600 new jobs over the next 15 years. The headquarters represents a major milestone for CityNorth and underscores the district’s emergence as a premier employment center.

Crown Realty Group, the owner and master developer of CityNorth, continues to oversee the project locally under the leadership of Rick Carpinelli.

“Since we built the project’s infrastructure in 2020, multiple projects have commenced construction with the completion of our first office building, the Republic Services Corporate Headquarters and the first luxury apartment community, Sunela Luxury Apartments,” said Carpinelli, representing Crown Realty Group. “Now that those buildings are complete, we’re proud to open City North Drive to the public for the first time. We’re excited for the community to experience our 100‑acre campus, which is already bustling with activity as we move forward on our next wave of projects.”

The projects open and under construction at CityNorth represent about 1/3 of the overall project.

“With the road now open, we’re well positioned for the next chapter of CityNorth,” Carpinelli said. “This is about creating a place where people can work, live and spend time—all without getting back in their cars.”
