Christ’s Church of the Valley eyes more East Valley land

Church worries town prioritizing highest price over general plan

As the town of Gilbert moves forward with the sale of an 18.9-acre, town-owned parcel near Ray Road and San Tan Village Parkway, Christ’s Church of the Valley has emerged as a potential bidder for the site.

But the church is also raising concerns that the process favors maximum revenue rather than land uses consistent with the town’s general plan.

The property, which is zoned public facilities/institutional and appraised at $6.39 million as of December, is being sold through a competitive bidding process authorized by the Gilbert Town Council in December. Under state law, the town must accept bids at or above the appraised value and award the sale to the highest bidder for cash.
