Childhood best friends make Fairytale Brownies a reality

Phoenix-based bakery has success baked in

A mother’s perfected recipe passed down to her son is a gift that keeps giving as a locally-owned brownie shop continues to pay its success forward.

More than 30 years ago, the local founders of Fairytale Brownies stirred up an idea on a playground to become business moguls. Eileen Spitalny and David Kravetz, who met in kindergarten, on the playground in 1971, realized their chemistry while working on school projects through the years.

“The recipe is from David’s mother — she received it from a neighbor back in Massachusetts because her husband loved them, but the recipe was incomplete.
