Child drowns in Gilbert backyard pool

Gilbert police responded to a drowning call Sunday, but the 2-year-old later died.

A 2-year-old boy died after being found unresponsive in a pool Sunday evening in Gilbert, authorities said.

Officers responded about 5:30 p.m. June 14, to the 3100 block of East Morrison Ranch Parkway after a 911 call reporting a possible drowning.

Police began lifesaving efforts before the child was taken by Gilbert Fire and Rescue to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
