Chief deputy named Maricopa County top cop

Russ Skinner has been named sheriff of Maricopa County — two days after the position’s finalists were interviewed for the county’s top cop. Skinner — a Democrat — switched his party affiliation from his Republican status last year to be in the running for the position, said Fields Moseley, a Maricopa County spokesman.

Russ Skinner has been named sheriff of Maricopa County — two days after the position’s finalists were interviewed for the county’s top cop.

Skinner — a Democrat — switched his party affiliation from his Republican status last year to be in the running for the position, said Fields Moseley, a Maricopa County spokesman.

“(Skinner) switched his party affiliation last year, which is legal,” Moseley said.
