Chaurasia: Sowing seeds of hope in Arizona — advancing breast cancer awareness and women’s health
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is set for Oct. 26 in Tempe.
The sobering reality is that cancer touches nearly everyone, with 1 in 3 people likely to get diagnosed during their lifetime.
For me, it has hit close to home already, having lost my mother to cancer and having seen my cousin sister battle breast cancer at an early age. These experiences have given me a personal understanding of the devastating impact this disease has on families, and it has inspired me to do my part to make a positive difference in others’ lives by lessening the negative impact of breast cancer on patients and their families.
As the CEO of HealthyU Clinics, I’ve made an aspiration to ensure that Arizona families, particularly women, have access to the healthcare services they need to protect their health. Our sponsorship of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Tempe Beach Park on Oct. 26 is one of the many ways we aim to raise awareness and provide support.

The impact of breast cancer on Arizona women
Breast cancer is a harsh reality for many women in Arizona and nationwide. Each year, more than 900 women in our state lose their battle with this disease, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services. As someone who has witnessed the effects of cancer firsthand, I know how important it is to fund research that helps improve prevention and treatment options.
Organizations like the American Cancer Society-Arizona are doing incredible work to support research efforts that can lead to breakthroughs in breast cancer care. At HealthyU Clinics, we believe in contributing to these long-term solutions.
Early detection saves lives
One of the most important lessons we’ve learned in the fight against breast cancer is the critical role of early detection. According to ADHS, 73% of breast cancer cases in Arizona are diagnosed at an early stage. Early detection can make a world of difference for women, providing more treatment options and a better chance of survival.
We know many women delay or avoid screenings because of cost, convenience or fear, but we encourage them to seek accessible breast cancer screenings and take control of their health.
Holistic care for long-term change
My mother’s and sister’s journey with cancer taught me that we need to look at health care as a continuous, holistic experience. I believe in an approach that’s focused on more than just one-off appointments or treatments and instead offers comprehensive care that addresses the needs of women throughout their lives. From early detection to ongoing support, it’s vital that health care institutions provide care that helps prevent illness and promotes long-term wellness.
As health care professionals, our mission must be clear — make healthcare accessible and affordable for all. It’s personal for me, and I hope that by continuing to expand our services and support initiatives like Making Strides, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of Arizona women.
