Charges dropped against Massie in Surprise arrest case

Judge removes trespassing accusation, but her lawsuit against city continues

Surprise community activist Rebekah Massie won’t be facing a criminal trespassing charge any longer after a judge threw it out this week.

Maricopa Country Justice Court Judge Gerald Williams called the supression against Massie "objectively outrageous" in his ruling on Oct. 23.

“For more than two months I’ve been living with the threat of punishment and jail time — being taken away from my kids, even — for doing nothing more than criticizing the government,” Massie said. “Free speech still matters in America, and I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have people on my side standing up for our rights with me.”
