Chandler woman pleads guilty to state animal-abuse charges

McLaughlin still faces Chandler cases

A Chandler woman initially arrested at her home in September 2023 has pleaded guilty to state charges that were filed by the Maricopa County almost a year later.

April A. McLaughlin, also known as Sydney S. McKinley, pleaded guilty to two felony charges of intentionally subjecting an animal to cruel mistreatment and two counts of fraudulent schemes and theft in Maricopa County Superior Court.

McKinley’s sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 15. According to court documents in the animal cruelty case, she could face anywhere from six months to 2.5 years in prison on the first count and supervised probation with animal care restrictions on the second.
