Chandler water, wastewater: Expensive projects ahead

Two major projects are going to cost a lot of Chandler capital improvement dollars over the next several years.

At a March 21 work session on the city’s capital improvement project budget, Utilities Director John Knudson said major sewer pipe replacement along Price Road and a water main line replacement along Germann Road are probably going to cost the city at least a combined $182 million.

The Price sewer project, which involves a 66-inch-diameter pipe, is almost $41 million on its own. Only $29 million of that cost can be paid with wastewater bonds, so the rest has to come from the wastewater operating budget.
