Chandler students place 2nd, 3rd at Arizona Spelling Bee
Kyrene del Pueblo seventh-grader heads to nationals

A student at a Chandler junior high school is headed to the Washington, D.C. area next month.
Isabelle Garcia, a seventh-grader at Kyrene del Pueblo Middle School, in West Chandler, placed second among the 28 finalists for the 2024 Arizona Spelling Bee, held March 16 in Phoenix.
That means she and Arizona Bee champion Aliyah Alpert, an eighth-grader from Yavapai County, are headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Md. in late May.
Both will have their expenses paid for their trips to nationals and each receive $800.
Esha Marupudi, a sixth-grader at BASIS Chandler, placed third in the state event, just missing a trip to nationals. VenkataSuchith Nathani, a seventh-grader at Arizona College Prep Middle School, also competed in the state bee.
Last year, Opal Mishra of Basha Middle School placed second at state and competed in the National Bee, while another Chandler Unified middle-schooler placed fourth in the Arizona Bee.
