Chandler Schools won’t seek new construction funds

Wirth wanted to skip agenda item; building renewal grants are a separate process

After a brief discussion Wednesday night, the Chandler Unified School District Governing Board concluded it will not be eligible for state funds related to school buildings due to declining enrollment.

In one of only a handful of action items on Wednesday’s regular meeting agenda, the board voted unanimously to approve a 2024 capital plan to be submitted to the Arizona School Facilities Board by a Sept. 1 deadline.

CUSD chief financial officer Lana Berry said submission of the report was a crucial step in years when the district was growing quickly and constructing or expanding many campuses.
