Chandler school board approves turf for 3 stadiums

Casteel, Basha on separate contract; ACPHS not part of plan

A $7.63 million contract for the final phase of the Chandler Unified School District’s football stadium grass replacement, with artificial turf, was approved by a 6-0 vote at Wednesday’s CUSD Governing Board meeting.

Board member Joel Wirth was at Wednesday’s meeting and abstained from voting on the contract. He didn’t say publicly why he abstained.

The contract calls for CORE Construction to oversee several elements of the replacement process at Chandler, Hamilton and Perry high schools. Replacement would begin in April 2024.
