Chandler Police take 3 into custody after gunfire incident

Posted

Chandler Police officers responded to a call about gunfire early Sunday morning and ended up taking three people into custody, according to a news release.

Police responded to a call about shots fired in a neighborhood near West Ray Road and Arizona Avenue just before 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, the release states.

The caller stated they had heard multiple shots being fired at a neighboring residence.

Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter in an alley behind the residence. Shortly after, the release states, officers heard multiple rounds being fired from the backyard of the home.

One officer observed a suspect pointing a weapon in the direction of officers. That's when the officer discharged their weapon at the suspect, police said.

Police said no one, including officers, was injured in the incident.

Three individuals found inside the residence have been detained,  the release states, though no information about them or any charges had been released as of late Sunday afternoon.

Per Chandler Police's recent agreement with the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team, the Mesa Police Department is investigating the incident.
