Chandler Police get $153K grant for narcotics analyzers

The Chandler Police Department has used TruNarc narcotics analyzers for more than five years. A grant accepted June 13 by the Chandler City Council will allow the department to get a few more such devices.

The $153,000 grant from the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s FY24 Fentanyl Prosecution, Diversion and Testing Fund will allow Chandler Police to buy four handheld drug analyzers.

Chandler Police Chief Bryan Chapman spoke to council at its June 10 study session, mentioning the multiple ways the analyzers make narcotics work easier and safer. He said the devices allow officers to determine if substances are narcotics.
