Chandler Police: Domestic argument escalates to homicide

A  25-year-old man  is in jail on a murder charge after following a homicide north of downtown Chandler, according to Chandler Police.

Jaren Jeandre Varnrobinson's charges include one count of second-degree murder related to domestic violence, according to a news release.

Varnrobinson is accused of killing Jadyn Angelica Rose Acker, 23.

Just after 5 p.m. on July 25, officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance near Arizona Avenue and Galveston Street, police said. A caller reported hearing an argument followed by a sound resembling a gunshot.

Officers arrived to find an apartment door ajar and an unresponsive woman inside. She was pulled outdoors by officers and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A second woman inside the apartment informed officers that she witnessed her adult son shoot Acker and that he was now barricaded in a bathroom.

The Chandler SWAT Team was dispatched and, using "less-lethal tools" and a police K9, safely took the suspect,  Varnrobinson, into custody. He was later transported to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Chandler Police stated a handgun and spent casing were recovered from the apartment.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the case as a domestic-related homicide. The investigation revealed that Acker and Varnrobinson were in a romantic relationship and had a child together.

Varnrobinson was still in jail on July 29 on a $1 million bond. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
