The man who shot an Amazon contract worker Dec. 14 had jealousy issues with a girlfriend who worked at the Chandler facility, police said.

Jacob Murphy, 29, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and from shots fired by another worker outside the delivery station, police said Friday. The victim is recovering and will survive, police said.

Murphy's girlfriend was not at work when he arrived Wednesday. Authorities said Murphy only knew one employee by name.

The victim, a contract worker, felt “something was strange,” tried to persuade Murphy to leave and that's when Murphy opened fire, police said in a release.

The commotion from the shooting drew the attention of the second worker, who then shot Murphy.

Murphy did not know the two men, according to police.

In all, police said, 10 shots were fired.

“The Chandler Police Department is not investigating the third male, who came to the victim's aid as a suspect,” the release stated.

“Once our investigation is complete, Chandler Police will forward the case to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review, which is standard practice in all shooting cases.”
