Chandler officers responded just after 5 p.m. July 25 to a report of a domestic disturbance near Arizona Avenue and Galveston Street. A caller reported hearing an argument followed by a sound resembling a gunshot, according to a Chandler Police Department release.

Officers arrived to find an apartment door ajar and an unresponsive woman inside. She was pulled outside by officers and pronounced dead at the scene.

A second woman inside the apartment “informed officers that she witnessed her adult son shoot the victim” and then barricaded himself in a bathroom.

The Chandler SWAT team used “less-lethal tools” and a police K9 to take the suspect into custody. He was later transported to a hospital for medical evaluation, police said.

A handgun and spent casing were recovered from the apartment, the release stated.
