Chandler Police: 3 men charged in gun-threat mall incident

Chandler Police stated they arrested two men after a Monday, Jan. 5 evening incident at the city's largest shopping mall.

Police stated, in a news release, that officers responded to a call at about 8:45 p.m. at the Chandler Fashion Center for a report of two men threatening another man with guns near the food court.

All three men were found by responding officers, arguing in a nearby retail store, the release states. The two younger men, Jalen Bails-Bacchus and Jeremiah Bagby, had guns on them and were immediately arrested.

Chandler Police: 3 men charged in gun-threat mall incident

Chandler Police stated they arrested two men after a Monday, Jan. 5 evening incident at the city's largest shopping mall.

Police stated, in a news release, that officers responded to a call at about 8:45 p.m. at the Chandler Fashion Center for a report of two men threatening another man with guns near the food court.

All three men were found by responding officers, arguing in a nearby retail store, the release states. The two younger men, Jalen Bails-Bacchus and Jeremiah Bagby, had guns on them and were immediately arrested.
 
Through witness interviews, video surveillance and other evidence, officers determined an older third man, John Lathrop, initially approached the two younger men and made physical threats before attempting to strike them.
 
During this altercation is when Bails-Bacchus and Bagby pulled out guns and pointed them at Lathrop, the release states. 
 
Police stated the two younger men then followed Lathrop into the food court area while yelling threats and pointing their weapons at the back of his head.
 
This prompted bystanders to call 911 and alert police of the incident, the release states.
 
No physical injuries were reported.
 
Lathrop was later arrested at his home on charges of threats and disorderly conduct, after an investigation revealed the extent of his involvement, police stated.
 
Bails-Bacchus and Bagby were arrested on charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, concealed deadly weapon under the age of 21. During a search at the holding facility, both young adults were found to be in possession of a suspected dangerous drug and related charges were submitted.
 
No exact ages or cities of residence were mentioned for the three men arrested. The investigation remains active and there is no known threat to the public, police stated.
