Chandler poised to create its own ambulance service

According to Chandler Fire Chief Tom Dwiggins, not only does his department have a difficult arrangement with a private ambulance contractor — it's an arrangement that will soon evolve into something even less effective.

The city’s contract with Maricopa Ambulance is set to expire Jan. 1, 2026. Dwiggins, wants the city to exercise a one-year extension on its contract with Maricopa Ambulance, then start providing Chandler Fire Department ambulance service on Jan. 1, 2027.

Dwiggins said the landscape of ambulance service in the Valley — especially the east and southeast parts — has shifted to one provided by city fire departments, rather than private ambulance companies.
