Chandler parents voice concerns with math program change

Two parents spoke out with concerns about an elementary curriculum change during public input at the Aug. 9 Chandler Unified School District governing board meeting.

The parents said the district made a decision to switch from a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt program called Saxon to a McGraw-Hill program named My Math. With the 2023-24 school year only about three weeks old, two parents are already sharing their problems with My Math.

CUSD spokesperson Stephanie Ingersoll pointed out the district’s director of curriculum and instruction, Dr. Jessica Edgar, went to speak with both parents directly after Wednesday’s meeting. Ingersoll said a statement from the district about the curriculum change could happen soon, but no questions about the change had been answered by noon Tuesday, Aug. 15.
