Chandler mayor wants resolution to water dispute

Even though the city of Chandler and a local water district have been at odds for years, the city has decided it’s time for a change.

That’s why last week, city leaders and staff announced a page full of frequently asked questions and other information about its dispute with the Roosevelt Water Conservation District, which appears to have dragged on for a decade or more.

Kevin Hartke said in the six years he’s been mayor, and before, the city has attempted to get the RWCD to sell water to the city for use by its customers. The city says property owners within RWCD boundaries are taxed by the district, yet don’t have the option of getting any of the water the district receives through entitlements.
