Chandler man pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter, gets 7-plus years

Walter Lee Riggins, Jr., 28, of Chandler has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael T. Liburdi to 87 months in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

The sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, authorities said.

Riggins pleaded guilty Aug. 21 to voluntary manslaughter.

Chandler man pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter, gets 7-plus years

Walter Lee Riggins, Jr., 28, of Chandler has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael T. Liburdi to 87 months in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

The sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, authorities said.

Riggins pleaded guilty Aug. 21 to voluntary manslaughter.

In December 2020, according to the release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Riggins, a member of the Gila River Indian Community, shot the victim, killing him.

The investigation in the case was conducted by the Gila River Police Department and the FBI.
