Chandler leaders adjust for ‘sunsetting’ rental tax

Eleven million dollars might not seem like a big revenue loss to a city the size and scope of Chandler, which approved a $1.66 billion budget last year.

But the loss of at least $11 million annually when Arizona’s rental tax sunsets on Jan. 1, 2025 will leave the city with less money in its general fund than it had in years past.

“Regular operations of the city will continue as we move forward,” Chandler budget director Matt Dunbar said. “However, this revenue reduction means that as needs arise in our community we have less revenue to meet the expectations of our residents.”
